It has become increasingly more difficult to obtain an accurate count on new pups born each year. As packs increase in size, in number, and occupy more remote areas of the ecosystem. Here is what we have to date.

2004 Spring Denning / Pup News

Druid Peak Pack
Druid female #376F, the beta female denned at a second den site near the rendezvous site. Two pups observed. The packs alpha female, #286F, who used the traditional den, has 5 pups. The size of the pack remains at 11 wolves.

Slough Creek Pack
Denned and at least 7 pups have been observed. The alpha female is uncollared and tracking is difficult. Due to traffic and visitor noises the pack dug a new den away from Slough Creek this year. Seven adults.

Chief Joseph Pack
The pack denned at their traditional area at Daly Creek in the NW corner of the Park. Two pups spotted, 7 adults.

Agate Creek Pack
Failed radio collars make tracking the pack difficult. The pack denned and 4-6 pups have been observed. Ten adults.

Geode Pack
106F's radio collar has failed, but she has denned. Eleven pups, in two separate litters have been spotted. The pack moved the pups into a new den due to visitor noise. Four adults.

Mollies Pack
Denned with 5 pups observed. Four adults.

Nez Perce Pack
It is now confirmed that the often-hard-to-spot Nez Perce Pack has denned at their traditional den site. New pups?? Unknown how many--Four adults.

"Firehole Group"
This new pack of 7 wolves, led by 340F, has no pups.

"Gibbon Group"
304F is a suspected alpha, and the only member with a collar. Recently one black pup was been seen from the air along with 5 adults.

Cougar Creek Pack
Denned, 5 pups observed. Five adults.

Leopold Pack
Probably denned. Since the deaths of the original alphas, 2M and 7F, this pack has been producing double litters. Twelve pups have been counted. 209F is believed to be the Leopold alpha female. 344F also seems to have some special status in the pack and may be the mother of the second litter. The alpha male has never been collared, but is always described as a "big gray wolf." Six adults.

Yellowstone Delta Pack
Six pups have been spotted along with 11 adults.

Swan Lake Pack
Three pups observed. Ten adults have been observed from the air.

Bechler Pack
Three pups observed. Four adults

Rose Creek II
Four adults. No pups observed.

Specimen Ridge Pack
U-Black female (a former Druid) denned on the lower slopes of Specimen Ridge, but moved the den farther up the mountain in late spring, probably due to visitor traffic and noise. The U-Black remains with big wolf 194M, 255F, and 378M. Five pups spotted. Three adults.
